ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q:What rates will I be charged by Empower if I decided to switch?
A:

The price you pay for electricity or gas depends on where your business is located, the type of meter(s) you have and, of course, how much energy you use. Empower offers competitive rates and our Customer Service Representatives will work with you to understand your business and identify the rates applicable to you. We will also work with you to identify ways we can effectively manage your energy requirements and help you use power efficiently.

Q:How is Empower owned and operated?
A:Empower is 100% owned by Contact Energy, one of New Zealands largest electricity retailers and generators.

Q:How long has Empower been operating for?
A:Empower was formed when the electricity market in New Zealand was deregulated and has been trading since 1998.

Q:Am I bound to Empower by signing a contract?
A:

By signing a contract with Empower you are bound for the term that is agreed upon, unless you vacate this site or change the legal entity. In these cases the contract becomes void and a new one can be discussed with your Customer Service Representative.

Q:When I join Empower, how will I be billed?
A:All our accounts are billed monthly. As we intend to read your meter every two to three months, you will receive estimated readings based on your previous use between reads.

Q:What payment methods are available?
A:A number of payment options are available including direct debit, telephone banking, major credit cards, automatic payment, cheque or in cash at any PostShop outlet.

Q:How long will it be before Empower starts to bill me?
A:

We will inform your current electricity retailer immediately of your wish to change. You will receive 1 (possibly 2) more bills from your current electricity retailer. Then your monthly billing cycle will start with Empower. This can take up to 8-10 weeks.

Q:Who will read my meter?
A:

Your meter will be read by a reputable experienced meter-reading company.

Q:If my Network (lines) company is a consumer trust (eg: Vector) am I still entitled to receive dividends if I switch to Empower?
A:Yes. You are still entitled to your dividends, which will be distributed in the normal way.

Q:How do I report a fault?
A:

You can call our faults service any time of the day or night, 7 days a week, on 0800 34 00 00. We will talk to your lines company regarding any fault query you may have. If you are in the following areas you are requested to call the local line company directly as follows:
